EK MUTTHI
Shabila
Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh
Led by Shabila, Ek Mutthi is a skills training collective programme for young women and girls from her own locality – Loni Village, Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), which aims to provide them a space for their individual growth and education outside the classroom, and for them to learn how to make beautiful products from waste.
Girls and young women collect regularly at Shabila’s roof top in Loni village, growing a strong bond and shaping a safe space to share concerns.
They have been working together on top of Shabila’s small roof, since 2022 and are now a dedicated group of 15+ girls (ages 12-22), creating products from textile and paper waste such as bags, hair bands, clips, toys and artwork.

We are thankful to Seema Kohli for her support of this project.
Together, they have created dolls, key chains, earrings, bags and many other products from waste fabric, plastic and paper.
"I have observed the communities of my village for 15 years and realised that there is no organisation working here for the children in terms of education and the school also does not have good facilities, which always makes me feel bad. Hence, the Ek Mutthi platform is born to provide an environment for girls where they can set a goal for their future and get benefits through its creativity training."
