DELHI YOUNG ARTISTS FORUM
Gulafsha and Seema
Bhalaswa Colony, Delhi
Through their Community Arts Grant, artists and social workers Seema and Gulafsha from Delhi Young Artists Forum worked with children and youth in displaced colonies of Bhalaswa (Delhi).
They facilitated workshops to have the participants share experiences and challenges faced because of the Covid 19 Lockdown, especially in access to education when everything went online.
Their work fosters education for girls of the community with grounded campaigns around literacy and the importance of going to schools, using art as a tool for raising awareness. With poster making, street plays and songwriting they speak of socio-political issues affecting the community.

Participants make posters at the DYAF centre in Bhalaswa, around their rights to education.
Artreach team was happy to visit their centre and lead a workshop around playful methods of drawing their self portraits, do drawing games and use movement as a tool for expression with them. Through the workshop it was exciting to see so many of the participants also speak about their dreams.
They sang songs of self determination, and of confidently walking the streets. It was inspiring to see them owning their space and their commitment towards education and learning with limited resources.
Through visual stories, girls shared the challenges they faced accessing schooling during lockdown. These were in turn used to campaign across the area, for children to return to school.
